Coronation Grade 5 Gifted

Hi everyone!

I am a student teacher from UOIT. I have had the pleasure of teaching with Mr. Raiken and this amazing class in the months of March and April.

You should be very proud of your students! They are so kind and caring, both for their own classmates and others in the school and community. Each student has welcomed me with enthusiasm! I have felt so 'at home' here and look forward to coming each day.

The class is so eager to learn and because of this, they are a pleasure to teach.

As I first began my stay at Coronation, the class was working along with other classes on a poetry unit. The students showed maturity in analyzing and creating their own poems.

Lately, we have been developing our descriptive writing skills. Mystery objects were examined, as well as going outside for a photoshoot (which rewarded the students with their own photographs). This provided the students with artifacts to describe.

Ecology is a big focus of our room, with several members of our class in the Ecology Club. It is one of my passions, too, so I have loved seeing the enthusiasm towards protecting our earth.

We have been discovering Ancient Civilizations in the past few weeks, with the students taking part in Centre-based learning. The Roman Empire has been explored, with the students showcasing their artistic talents, in the creation of several artifacts.

We look forward to researching Egypt, Greece and Rome and developing our group projects. I wait in anticipation. We hope to put together a museum of our discoveries!

Multiplication and division have been the focus in mathematics. Contests and games to learn the facts have been enjoyed by all! Multo, Diviso and "round the world" are favourites. We even managed to look at math from an ecological point of view!

I have truly enjoyed my time here, and look forward to returning to volunteer in May and June. A heartfelt thank you is extended to all! I will truly miss each one of you!

As Mr. Raiken always says - you are the best class in the school! He is right!
